HM3D 74X-i2A Airliner Preflight Checklist

Ensure a safe, enjoyable, and successful flight every time by following this essential preflight checklist:

1. Engine Run-Up Test

  • Conduct a full-throttle engine run-up for 1-2 minutes.

  • Check ESC temperature:

    • If above 120°F (49°C), consider installing a cooling fan or replace ESC.

  • Listen carefully for out-of-sync motors:

    • Slight differences are normal; significant mismatches require ESC recalibration.

    • To recalibrate:

      1. Power on aircraft with throttle at maximum.

      2. Await ESC confirmation tones.

      3. Move throttle to idle position.

2. Fan and Nacelle Inspection

  • Verify fans are firmly mounted and secured within each nacelle.

  • Ensure blades do not touch nacelle walls to prevent ESC damage.

    • Adjust fit by adding tape shims if necessary.

3. Control Surface and BEC Check

  • Move all control surfaces through their full range during engine run-up.

  • Confirm there's no brownout or unexpected reset.

  • Verify correct failsafe settings and control surface direction multiple times.

4. Center of Gravity (CG) Check

  • CG Position: 114mm forward from wing root trailing edge on F5B.

  • Typical battery location: Midpoint between formers F5A and F4.

  • Ensure the battery is securely fastened.

5. Recommended Control Throws

  • Elevator: ±25mm

  • Ailerons: ±30–35mm

  • Rudder: ±20–30mm

  • Nosewheel Steering: ±45° minimum (Servos with more than 60 degrees of travel recommended for tighter turns)

6. Expo Settings (Recommended)

  • Elevator: 20–30%

  • Ailerons: 5–15%

  • Rudder: 10–15%

  • Nosewheel Steering: ~45% for straight tracking on ground roll.

7. Landing Gear Check

  • Spin each wheel manually to ensure smooth rotation.

  • Identify and address any wheel or bearing drag before flight.

8. Gyro Stabilization (First Flight Recommendation)

  • Do not use gyro stabilization on maiden flights.

  • The HM3D 74X-i2A provides naturally stable flight characteristics without a gyro.

9. Throttle Trim Adjustment (Optional)

  • Slightly increase throttle trim so engines idle gently at zero throttle position.

  • Benefits include smoother ground handling, gentler transitions, and realistic engine operation.

10. Initial Flight Expectation

  • Anticipate a moderate pitch-up and steep climb at full throttle after rotation.

  • Be prepared to trim nose-down as necessary.

11. Slow Flight Handling Familiarization

  • At altitude, gradually apply maximum elevator and manage throttle to sustain level flight.

  • Practice slow flight, noting how throttle controls altitude.

  • Maintain wings-level attitude primarily using ailerons; be cautious of rudder input causing adverse yaw and reduced airspeed.

12. LW-PLA Heat & UV Advisory

  • Avoid direct sunlight exposure to LW-PLA components. They will buckle and distort in direct sunlight at warmer temps.

  • Best flight times are early mornings for roughly 2 Hrs after first light, evenings around 90 mins before sunset, or during overcast conditions.

Perform these checks before every flight to ensure safety, reliability, and optimal flight performance of your HM3D 74X-i2A Airliner.
