If you’re still having trouble, email us at support@flyhm3d.com and we’ll resend it right away.
Can I create an account after purchasing?
Yes.
If you checked out as a guest, simply create an account using the same email address you used for your order. Your order history and downloads will appear automatically.
Can I download on my phone?
Yes, but for large or editable files we recommend downloading to a desktop for the best experience.
Do you update the print files?
We occasionally release improvements or refinements. When we do, updated files are sent directly to previous customers.
Heat, Sun & Color Effects
Q: Will LW-PLA deform in hot weather or direct sun?
A: We tested this directly. We printed several parts of the 74x using ColorFabb LW-PLA in Natural and left them in direct sun all day in 112–115°F conditions.
To our surprise, the parts did not suffer a single bit of deformation—none at all.
We believe this is because the bright natural color reflects UV, and LW-PLA also has a higher glass transition temperature than most standard PLA.
⚠️This result is specific to ColorFabb LW-PLA in Natural (unpainted). Other colors may not behave the same.
Q: What happens if I use dark colors or paint LW-PLA?
A: This is where things change quickly. If you paint the aircraft or use darker colors, it will absorb heat instead of reflecting it.
In our testing, deformation can begin in around ~3 minutes in direct sun.
Q: Can I still fly LW-PLA models in extreme heat (115°F+)?
A: Yes, but you need to manage sun exposure before takeoff.
-
Keep the aircraft protected from the sun on the way to the field
-
Use a shade canopy while setting up
-
Keep taxi time under 1 minute
Once in the air, airflow keeps everything cool enough to maintain its shape.
Q: What actually causes deformation—heat or sunlight?
A: Based on our testing, it’s direct UV exposure—not just ambient heat.
That’s why:
-
Light-colored parts can sit in extreme heat without deforming
-
Dark or painted parts fail quickly in direct sun
Q: What are the safest times of day to fly LW-PLA?
A: Dawn and dusk are essentially worry-free.
-
Dawn: ~10 minutes before the sun breaks and up to ~30 minutes after
-
Dusk: Up to an hour before sunset and into twilight
At those times, reduced direct UV exposure prevents deformation, even without shade protection.
